Privacy policy

1. Scope

This policy describes information handled by the 07734 iPhone app, website, and person-to-person paging service. The built-in local line can be used without creating a network account. Real paging, number assignment, purchases, and account-linked features use the services described below.

2. Information we handle

Account and service identifiers

When you use Sign in with Apple, Clerk provides an account identifier used to authenticate you. Clerk may also hold information supplied through that sign-in flow, such as an email address or Apple private relay address. Our Convex database stores the Clerk identifier and your assigned pager number; it does not store your Clerk email as a profile field.

Pages and social features

• Pager numbers, numeric or alphanumeric page content, timestamps, delivery state, and device capability.
• Accepted and blocked number relationships, page requests, and screening preferences.
• Invite codes: when you share your number from the app, it creates a one-time code tied to your pager number that lets the first page from the person you sent it to go straight through. Codes expire after 14 days. We record whether a code was used, not who used it.
• Push notification registrations: a device token issued by Apple, the app’s identifier, and the pager number it belongs to, so a page can ring your phone when the app is closed.
• Short-lived counters that limit how fast a number can send, to stop abuse.
• Reports you submit, including the reason and a verified copy of the reported page.

Onboarding and purchases

Onboarding asks a few optional multiple-choice questions: who the pager is for, how many people you plan to give your number to, the first page you would send, when you would use it, the decade you were born, and where you heard about 07734. Apple and RevenueCat process purchase transactions. We receive entitlement status needed to unlock devices or custom-number rights; we do not receive your full payment card number.

Usage analytics

The released app uses PostHog to count how the app is used, so we can see where people get stuck. It records events such as opening the app, moving through onboarding, being assigned a number, sending or receiving a page, adding a person, viewing or completing a purchase, and sharing a page as a video. Events never include page text, pager numbers, or anything you typed. Once you sign in, they are linked to your account identifier, together with your onboarding answers, so results can be broken down by group. PostHog also receives standard device and connection details such as your IP address.

Information kept on your iPhone

The app keeps pager messages, locally assigned rolodex names, settings, alert choices, entitlement mirrors, and other state in local storage. Rolodex names are not uploaded as network display names. Story videos are rendered to a temporary local file and are shared only when you use the iOS share sheet.

Permissions and sensor data

Microphone and speech-recognition access are optional and used to transcribe a page you dictate. The app requests on-device recognition where supported and does not store your dictation audio, but Apple may process speech when on-device recognition is unavailable. Motion data drives the pager’s light and shadows; it is not stored or sent to our backend. Notification permission is used for page alerts, which Apple delivers. An alert never contains page text. It says only that your pager is going off, or that someone is trying to reach you.

When you open the dialer, the app checks whether your clipboard holds a pager number without reading it. It reads the clipboard only when you tap the paste button.

3. How information is used

• Assign and route pager numbers and messages.
• Authenticate accounts and preserve purchased entitlements.
• Screen unknown numbers, enforce blocks, and investigate reports.
• Send alerts to your phone when a page arrives.
• Operate, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the service.
• Understand how the app is used and where people discovered it, using the analytics described above.

07734 does not use advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking identifiers. We do not sell personal information.

4. Who processes information

We use service providers only for defined operating purposes:

• Apple for Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, optional speech services, push notifications, and the system share sheet.
• Clerk for authentication and account sessions.
• Convex for database hosting and paging functions.
• RevenueCat for purchase entitlement management.
• PostHog for the usage analytics described above.
• Vercel to host this website. The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, but its host keeps standard server logs.
• OpenRouter and its routed model provider for the built-in OPERATOR’s generated replies. To create a reply, the service may send recent page bodies from your OPERATOR thread. Do not send sensitive information to the OPERATOR.

Other users receive the pager number and page content you send them. They do not receive your Clerk account identifier, email address, or local rolodex names.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, investigate abuse, or preserve the security and integrity of the service.

5. Your choices and controls

• Use the built-in local line without a real paging account.
• Decline microphone, speech, or notification permission.
• Screen, accept, block, or unblock pager numbers.
• Report a received page and block its sender.
• Erase locally stored pager messages and sign out.

Erasing a message on your iPhone does not by itself erase the server copy. Server copies are removed automatically after 90 days, or when you delete your account.

You can delete your account from the app: Setup → Account → Delete account. This retires your pager number and removes your pages in both directions, the people you carry, your pending requests, your notification registrations, and your sign-in. Your number is retired rather than reissued, so nobody else will hold it later.

Two things deliberately survive. Reports filed about an account are kept as safety records, so that deleting an account cannot erase evidence of harm to someone else. Reports filed by you are kept but no longer identify you. Purchases live with Apple and RevenueCat and are governed by their terms. Usage analytics are not removed by deleting the account; e-mail us and we will ask PostHog to delete the record tied to your account identifier.

6. Retention and security

Pages and page requests are deleted from our servers 90 days after they are sent. Account, relationship, and entitlement records are kept until you delete your account. Reports are safety records and are kept beyond 90 days. Temporary custom-number reservations expire; retired numbers stay reserved so they are never reassigned to a stranger. Records may also be kept longer where the law requires it or to resolve a dispute.

We use authentication and access controls designed to limit access, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. 07734 pages are not advertised as end-to-end encrypted. Do not use the service for secrets, emergencies, or information requiring a regulated secure channel.

7. Children

07734 is not designed as a service for children. The optional birth decade question is broad onboarding information, not age verification. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the service, contact us so we can review the situation.

8. Policy updates

We may update this policy as the app or its service providers change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected on this page and, when appropriate, in the app.
